Do you ever find yourself giving an automatic, "yes", when maybe you should hold off just a bit before making a decision? For example:
When a friend needs your help with something, of course you drop everything you are doing and help your friend. It's the right thing to do, right? When someone is in need, you help them! No thought, no questions. You simply act. What if you find yourself spending so much time taking care of your friends that you neglect your responsibilities? You put everything else aside to help that friend: children, husband, work, responsibilities, prior commitments? What then? Is it still right to dive head first into helping? Or, should we take a step back, breath, pray about it, and then make a decision?
This applies to everything: joining a ministry at the church, helping out with PTA, volunteering, etc. This is my pondering today.
Lately, I've been faced with decisions, tough decisions that need lots of prayer and contemplation. I'm not sensing much clarity in the decision making process. I feel like I've prayed about it and I have read the Word for answers, but after true reflection, I do believe that I have seek'ed God's wisdom halfheartedly. I'm not saying the correct decision wasn't made in these situations, but I do not have a sense of true peace, which I contribute to half haphazardly requesting God's wisdom. You see, knee jerk responses are my specialty.
In Proverbs, the author warns us against knee jerk responses. Proverbs 3:13-18 reads:
Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
14
for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
15
She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
16
Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17
Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
18
She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;those who hold her fast will be blessed.
This verse explains that my sense of discontentment could very well be caused by my lackadaisical attitude toward seeking God's clarity and wisdom. When I seek God's wisdom, there are no regrets!
My prayer today is that I would wholeheartedly seek the wisdom of the Lord in every decision that is made and is needing to be made, so that I do not cause others to stumble or become disheartened, because of my choices. And, so I can peace that I am within God's Will. Blessings!
